(plural pol·y·ur·e·thane) noun Polyurethane parts are conveniently made by mixing two components a low molecular weight prepolymer which contains reactive isocyanate groups, and a curative which contains hydroxyl or amine groups. The mixture is poured into a mold where the components rapidly react to form a solid elastomeric article. Prepolymers are classified chemically as "polyester" or "polyether", depending on their composition.
